Tybee historical society raises funds for lighthouse upgrade

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC)- The Tybee Island Historical Society raised $7,000 at its Tall Ships Salute fund-raiser for the repainting of the Tybee Island Lighthouse.

The event took place on May 7 at the Tybee Lite Shrine Club while the 14 ships in the Savannah Tall Ships Challenge sailed past Tybee Island's North Beach.

Skechers to pay $40 million to customers for Shape-Up Shoes false claims

ATLANTA (WTOC) - Skechers is going to pay up for it's shape-ups. The government says Skecher's claims that the Shape-Up fitness shoes can help shed pounds and tone muscles are sketchy at best. 
 
The footwear company will pay $40 million to settle charges by the Federal Trade Commission that Skechers made unfounded claims that its Shape-ups shoes would help people lose weight and strengthen their butt, leg and stomach muscles.

AAA releases Memorial Day travel outlook

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The summer travel season kicks off Memorial Day weekend, and AAA expects a slight increase in traffic compared to last year.

AAA predicts more than 30 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles this Memorial Day weekend. Those numbers are up a little more than one percent from 2011, but in Georgia, the outlook is a little better.
